Success Without The Chase.
When we hear about having an excellent financial outlook, most of us picture a big pot of gold waiting for us in the future. And, honestly, who doesn’t enjoy daydreaming about the spoils of success? We tell ourselves that if we work harder than ever, we’ll catch a lucky break, and everything will finally snap into place. I’ve been there a few times, and when things line up, it’s an incredible rush! But when they don’t, the finish line seems to move further and further away, always just beyond reach.
The word "outlook" is interesting because it's not just about predicting the future. It also speaks to our perspective in the present. Most people would crack open this cookie and interpret today’s fortune as a forecast of something great that’s coming, but what if we shifted the way we view what we already have instead? By changing our outlook, we can realize that abundance isn’t always about chasing the next thing but rather, appreciating what we already have.
I’ve spent a lot of time and energy chasing after position, status and material things. Initially, of course, it all was out of pure necessity to provide for my young family. To do that, I had to improve myself and increase the value I could deliver for my employer, his customers, and later, after hanging my own shingle, the value I delivered for my customers. Once our needs were achieved, I kept moving forward on a mission to learn more, earn more, and improve our lifestyle. But here’s the thing about success: there’s no finish line. When success is defined by getting more things or achieving a higher status, there’s not really a moment where it feels like enough. The chase just keeps chasing.
Instead of chasing the next big upgrade, consider redefining success by finding satisfaction in what you already have. Take a step back and appreciate the life you’ve built, the relationships you’ve nurtured, and the moments that bring you joy. Satisfaction can come from realizing that the things we often overlook may be worth more than any material possession. By focusing on fulfillment in the everyday stuff, you’ll start to see that success has been with you all along. Even if today’s fortune makes it sound like financial success is somewhere in the future, maybe true abundance can be found in how you view the present, after all, “your financial outlook is excellent.”
