Pursuing Perfection.
Today’s Marketing Cookie is about committing to quality and excellence in everything you do.
In the heart of a quiet Danish village, there was once a busy workshop known for its finely crafted wooden toys. It was a family business, passed down through generations, with a reputation for detail that reached far beyond their village. Each toy was made with meticulous attention, embodying the company’s motto: "Only the best is good enough."
One fateful night, a terrible fire broke out, destroying the entire woodworking factory and turning nearly all of the wooden toy models and inventory to ashes. The villagers watched helplessly as the fire lit up the night sky. By morning, almost everything was lost, except for one section of the factory where small, plastic toy bricks were made.
Faced with ruin, the owner saw an opportunity in those resilient little bricks. Though his company hadn’t invented them, they didn’t fit together very well, and although his workers were more skilled in woodworking, he believed he could perfect their design and improve their quality.
He decided in that moment to pivot the entire business away from the fine wooden toys they had become so well known for and focus solely on improving the plastic bricks. He poured all of his efforts into refining and redesigning them, ensuring they interlocked with precision and durability.
A new factory rose from the ashes, filled with the promise of endless possibilities. Children and adults alike began to notice the colorful bricks, which always fit together perfectly and could be built into anything they could imagine. The commitment to quality in producing these new plastic bricks remained a testament to the craftsmanship that had always defined the company. The little bricks and the company that crafted them with great care went on to become a household name, loved by millions around the world, and known by all as LEGO.
Godtfred Christiansen’s unwavering dedication to excellence, even in the face of disaster, transformed his family business into something remarkable. As you navigate your own path, let their motto “Only the best is good enough” inspire you to prioritize quality in everything you do. By maintaining high standards and putting heart into your work, you too will be as today's fortune says, "You are caring and compassionate."
