Picture this: a cozy evening, a feast of Chinese takeout before me, trying to spark a stroke of blogging brilliance. I was on a mission to dream up a brilliant idea for a new marketing blog.

An epiphany was not immediately on the menu however, as I munched egg rolls and navigated through the noodles. The essentials were neatly lined up—a bulletproof strategy, a color-coded content calendar (a thing of beauty, really), and goals that soared higher than the clouds. I had everything I needed for success, except for an idea.

Ideas were playing hard to get.

What if...? Boring!

Oh! I could... That's dumb.


I was defeated as the last morsel of rice was polished off and then the fortune cookie made its grand entrance. I cracked open the crunchy vessel of destiny, half-expecting some nonsensical musing about the optimal number of cat videos one should watch on a Tuesday. Instead, I found a nugget of inspiration, perfect for a blog post title.

Challenge accepted! 

I declared, "From this day forward, I shall write a marketing blog based on whatever it says inside of a fortune cookie." What started as the hunt for the next big blog idea is now guided by whatever wisdom is tucked inside the crisp folds of those golden fortune cookies.
