At the Threshold.

My mom used to say, “When one door closes, another one opens.” It suggests that there is a universal law of physics that prohibits all doors from be closed at once. Despite the comforting words, it can be devastating when doors slam shut. While the feeling of loss hits hard, and it’s natural to mourn what’s gone, there are new possibilities out there waiting for you to find them.

The thing is, most doors don’t just slide open on their own as you approach, like at the grocery store. Sometimes you’ve got to step up, turn the knob, push it open with your shoulder, and walk through. You may have to be proactive and go after new opportunities instead of just waiting for them to open up for you.

Sometimes, doors appear when you least expect them or when you don’t really need them. What should you do when the flying fickle finger of fate points you toward a new opportunity that you weren’t looking for? Should you take the leap into the unknown or remain where you are? Often, we only start seeking something new after a door officially closes and forces us to act. 

Finally, there may be one door you still haven’t tried to open. While it may be obvious to others around you, you either haven’t noticed it or you’ve been too afraid to open it. Instead of always looking for new external opportunities, there may personal transformation, growth, and untapped potential behind that door, just waiting to be discovered. Unlocking your own potential could provide you with a new set of keys that opens doors you never imagined possible.

Every door represents a chance to discover something new. When they close, don’t let it overshadow the possibilities that lie ahead. Whether it’s the chance to grow, learn, or transform, every threshold can lead you to new challenges and opportunities. Even if the last one wouldn’t open, it’s up to you to keep trying, and eventually you’ll find it is as today’s fortune says, “Another door is waiting to be opened.”
